Κύων λαγωὸν ἐξ ὄρους ἀναστήσας
ἐδίωκε, δάκνων αὐτὸν εἰ κατειλήφει,
μεταστραφείς τ' ἔσαινεν ὡς φίλῳ ψαύων.
ὁ λαγωός "ἁπλοῦν" εἶπε "θηρίον γίνου.
φίλος εἶ; τί δάκνεις; ἐχθρὸς εἶ; τί
οὖν σαίνεις;"
[Ἀμπίβολος οὗτός ἐστι νοῦς ἐν ἀνθρώποις,
οἷς οὔτ' ἀπιστεῖν ἔχομεν οὔτε πιστεύειν.]
