Aesop's Fables: Sir Roger L'Estrange (1692)
153. A SOW AND A BITCH (Perry 223)
A Sow and a Bitch had a Dispute once, which was the Fruitfuller of the
Two. The Sow Yielded it at last to the Bitch; but you are to take Notice
at the same time, says she, that your Puppies are All Blind.
THE MORAL. The Question among all Sorts of Competitors is not Who does
most but who does Best.
L'Estrange originally published his version of the fables in 1692. There is a
very nice illustrated edition in the Children's Classics series by Knopf: Sir
Roger L'Estrange. Aesop
