Aesop's Fables: Sir Roger L'Estrange (1692)
196. A PIGEON AND A CROW (Perry 202)
A Pigeon that was brought up in a Dove-House, was Bragging to a Crow
how Fruitful she was. Never Value your self, says the Crow, upon that
Vanity; for the more Children the more Sorrow.
THE MORAL. Many Children are a Great Blessing; but a Few Good Ones
are a Greater; All Hazards consider’d.
L'Estrange originally published his version of the fables in 1692. There is a
very nice illustrated edition in the Children's Classics series by Knopf: Sir
Roger L'Estrange. Aesop
- Fables which is available at amazon.com.
