Phryx Aesopus (Osius, 1574)

100. OLLA ET LEBES. (Perry 378)

EST ablatus ubi vi Lebes aeneus undae,
Ollaque, materiae fictilis illa fuit:
Olla metu caute concursum vitat aheni,
A quo dira sibi damna timenda videt.
Cui Lebes te cur, ait, ulla pericula terrent,
Non tibi concurrens ipse nocere velim.
Cui sic Olla: mihi tua non suspecta voluntas,
Fortuiti casus damna timenda puto.
Non humiles sperent commercia tuta potentum,
Quorum impune manus, cum voluere, nocent.

Phryx Aesopus Habitu Poetico, by Hieronymus Osius, 1574 (artist not identified). Available online at the University of Mannheim. This book clearly recycles a set of images from another book of Aesop's fables. In some cases, the illustration does not match the fable shown, and in some cases I have not been able to identify what fable a given illustration is supposed to illustrate.
