Phryx Aesopus (Osius, 1574)

144. TRABS ET BOVES. (Perry 0)

UNDE novum fieret tignum fortasse trahebant
Lentius hos aegre, quae tulit ire Trabem.
Quae quod anhelarent et segnes gressibus essent,
Obiurgante pigros durius ore vocat.
Unus ibi dixisse Boum perhibetur, at isto
Fasce levans iterum postmodo tempus erit.
At quodcumque volent homines imponere rerum,
Te premet, in cariem dum redigaris, onus.
Exprobrare suos miseris vereare labores,
Mox quibus urgeri te quo que posse putes.

Phryx Aesopus Habitu Poetico, by Hieronymus Osius, 1574 (artist not identified). Available online at the University of Mannheim. This book clearly recycles a set of images from another book of Aesop's fables. In some cases, the illustration does not match the fable shown, and in some cases I have not been able to identify what fable a given illustration is supposed to illustrate.
