DEsaeviret hiems dum frigore, spondet Echino
Vipera communem, quem colit illa, locum.
Sed spatio vix ille suo capit arctior ambos,
Hospitis a spinis Vipera laesa doler.
Migret ut hinc ergo sibi linquens ille cavernam,
Arcta duos capiant cum minus antra, iubet.
Respondisse ferunt ad iussa sed huius Echinum,
Cui durare grave hîc [Reg: hic] , exeat ille, licet.
Est hac sede mihi cedendi nulla voluntas,
Quod mutare locum si lubet, ipse potes.
Dicitur illa suam sic amisisse cavernam,
Hospite quam pulsam fama manente refert.
Fac fugias, quorum te subiectura potestas,
Possessura tuas sive videtur opes.
Iuris ut esse sui, quae creditur optima, res est,
