QUi bona famoso prodegerat omnia luxu,
Quae suus heredi liquerat ampla pater.
Vendidit ille, sibi quae tunc erat unica, vestem,
Nuntia veris ubi visa fuisset avis.
Et pretium decoxit iners hoc vina bibendo,
Lustra frequentando turpia potor erat.
Sed praemature cum stulta redisset hirundo,
Ut fieri quondam vere vocante solet:
Rursus agente gelu saevis ea viribus anno
Est exstincta ferens tam grave frigus avis.
Prodigus hoc moriens cum frigore pene videret,
Improba cur mecum te quoque perdis, ait:
Ne, quaecumque geras, alieno tempore fiant,
Hoc quia ni caveas, causa doloris erunt.
