Phryx Aesopus (Osius, 1574)

41. VENTER ET MEMBRA. (Perry 130)

POSSE ministerio nostro indignantia speras
Membra cibo dicunt improbe Venter ali?
Non ita fiet, amas sudantibus otia nobis,
Fas erit idcirco destituare cibis.
At dum Membra negant alimentum inprovida Ventri,
Corporis hinc virtus facta caduca fuit.
Paenitet invidiae sic Membra dolentia sero,
Est quibus hoc ausu vita coacta mori.
Seditiosa gravi damno discordia cives
Afficit, his sociam cum fera turbat opem.

** The image does not fit the fable. **
It looks like it would fit Fable 203.

Phryx Aesopus Habitu Poetico, by Hieronymus Osius, 1574 (artist not identified). Available online at the University of Mannheim. This book clearly recycles a set of images from another book of Aesop's fables. In some cases, the illustration does not match the fable shown, and in some cases I have not been able to identify what fable a given illustration is supposed to illustrate.
