Phryx Aesopus (Osius, 1574)

55. CARBONARIUS ET FULLO. (Perry 29)

COnductas pretio quas Carbonarius aedes
Incolit, his spatii est area lata sui.
Occupet ut secum Fullonem invitat easdem,
Cui quae sunt, spatio tecta capace carent.
Hoc fieri Fullo sine damno posse negabat,
Et causam cur sic sentiat, esse refert:
Nam fore quae tecum sperem commercia, dixit;
Quae non esse brevi vana futura putem?
Cum, mea quas puris pulchre manus eluat undis
Res mihi fuligo te maculante notet?
Non hos, discordant qui moribus, utile iungi,
Est paribus iungi res modo tuta pares.

Phryx Aesopus Habitu Poetico, by Hieronymus Osius, 1574 (artist not identified). Available online at the University of Mannheim. This book clearly recycles a set of images from another book of Aesop's fables. In some cases, the illustration does not match the fable shown, and in some cases I have not been able to identify what fable a given illustration is supposed to illustrate.
