14.93 Forms of the Second Aorist Middle Indicative

Read through Croy section 93.

Again, the endings of the aorist past middle are identical to those of the imperfect past middle, just as the active endings were identical. They both have augment, since they are past tense verbs. As a result, the only way to tell the difference between the imperfect past middle and the aorist past middle is by recognizing the stem.

If the verb is built from the first principal part (present stem), then it is the imperfect past.

If the verb is built from the third principal part (aorist stem), then it is the aorist past.
