NUtrivisse ferunt ad aratra trahenda Iuvencum
Agricolam, sed spes tale fefellit opus.
Namque ferox nimium iuga detrectare solebat,
Obvius huic odio scilicet omnis erat.
Nempe minace ferum se praebuit omnibus ictu,
Parcere non ipsi saepe solebat hero.
Cornibus hinc illum truncatis iungit aratro,
Atque tenens stivam pone gubernat opus.
At neque sic habilem se praebuit ille labori,
Impatiens operae respuit huius opus.
Quin trunco terram capite ille ferocit in ipsam,
Et negat imposito colla premenda iugo.
Inque os, inque oculos pedibus dispergit arenam,
More furens rabido taurus arantis heri.
Sic opus exercens cum deliraret arandi,
Desperasse potest rusticus huius opem.
Esse feros adeo probat experientia multos,
Ut subigi nulla se ratione sinant.
Pectus enim nullis monitis tractabile praebent,
Et praecepta pati nulla severa solent.
