Sese abiecit humi, sic prae maerore iacebat,
Deque suo tacite questa dolore fuit.
Exstinctam tunc esse ratae propiore volatu
Huc ignara doli turba feruntur aves.
Vidit ut hoc animam cohibere vaferrima Vulpes
Coepit, et immoto corpore tota fuit.
Ne quid aves vivam spirandi signa docerent,
Huic index vitae spiritus omnis abest.
Insiliunt ergo gestu ludente volucres
In Vulpem, quae iam mortua visa fuit.
At notat illa dolis ubi tempus adesse parandis,
Exsiliens, est quae proxima, prendit avem.
Has experta die fraudes etiam illa sequenti,
Sed rem successu destituente fuit.
Quod de sepe tuam si conspicer improba pellem
Expassam, Cornix huic (ut opinor) ait:
Non mihi in hanc temere sit stulta volare cupido.
Insidiis artes sunt quia mille tuis.
