INDULGERE gulae qui more solebat inerti,
Et ventri potius quam sibi natus erat:
Hunc invitatum cuidam rus esse colono,
Rus, quod ab hac aberat longius urbe, ferunt.
Eximias sperans proficiscitur ille ciborum
Lautitias, quarum captus amore fuit.
Esse reperta ferunt huc cui pyra forsan eunti,
Quae lotio ridens polluit ille suo.
At quia rivus, aquam cuius transire viator
Debuit, a fusis imbribus auctus erat.
Unde referre pedes manifesta pericula cogunt,
Ni misere mergi sponte laboret aquis.
Sic lauti pereunte cibi spe deserit amnem
Tristis, et esuriens acriter inde redit.
Ac pyra, quae temere comminxerat ante, requirit,
Detergensque avido devorat ore cibum.
Hanc intestinis latrantibus obicit escam,
Sustinet hac utens ille levare famem.
Saepe superba movent illam fastidia poenam,
Rursus ut haec, quae quis spreverit ante, petat.
