Phryx Aesopus (Osius, 1574)
177. VOX HAEDI. (Perry 0)
REtenui quidam non admittente patrono
Saepe Cliens dura voce repulsus erat.
Affert huic teneri tandem qui corporis Haedum,
Ante domum quem stans vellicat ille manu.
Sic simul huius ubi vox est audita patrono,
Ecquis adest, qui me forte requirat, ait?
Iamque audire lubens, quem reppulit ante, Clientem
Sustinet, et quid tu (comiter inquit) ais?
Quo narrante sibi cum cognita causa fuisset,
Non sine consilio passus abire fuit.
Plus hominum capiunt re quavis munera mentes,
Immites alias flectere dona valent.
*** The drawing does not fit the fable. ***

Phryx Aesopus Habitu Poetico, by Hieronymus Osius, 1574 (artist not identified). Available online at the University of Mannheim. This book clearly recycles a set of images from another book of Aesop's fables. In some cases, the illustration does not match the fable shown, and in some cases I have not been able to identify what fable a given illustration is supposed to illustrate. |
