Phryx Aesopus (Osius, 1574)

24. LUPUS ET HAEDUS. (Perry 572)

CAPRA exire volens in pascua praecipit Haedo,
Audeat ut caulae non aperire fores.
Discedente Lupus qua se mox voce parentem
Exili simulans insidiator adest.
Et clausas aperire fores iubet obice praedo,
At subolens fraudem providus Haedus ait:
Barba nulla carens admitti bestia nobis
Debet, id hinc peregre iussit itura parens.
Crata Deo pietas revereri iussa parentum,
Praemia non unquam cui sua deesse sinit.

*** The drawing does not fit the fable. ***

(The same image appears, more appropriately, for Fable 36.)

Phryx Aesopus Habitu Poetico, by Hieronymus Osius, 1574 (artist not identified). Available online at the University of Mannheim. This book clearly recycles a set of images from another book of Aesop's fables. In some cases, the illustration does not match the fable shown, and in some cases I have not been able to identify what fable a given illustration is supposed to illustrate.
