Phryx Aesopus (Osius, 1574)

246. DE FELE ET MURIBUS. (Perry 0)

ANnectenda vagae Feli aera sonantia Mures
Unanimi voto constituisse ferunt.
Ut moniti sonitu vitare pericula possint,
Cum praedam solitis artibus usa petat.
Omnibus illa quidem mire decreta placebant,
At tamen effectu quae caruere suo.
Qui quia iussa lubens annecteret aera minaci,
Muribus e cunctis fama fuisse negat.
Res multi suadere graves animosius audent,
Qui faciant ipsi non re perire licet.

*** The drawing does not fit the fable. ***
The same image appears at Fable 214, where it fits better.

Phryx Aesopus Habitu Poetico, by Hieronymus Osius, 1574 (artist not identified). Available online at the University of Mannheim. This book clearly recycles a set of images from another book of Aesop's fables. In some cases, the illustration does not match the fable shown, and in some cases I have not been able to identify what fable a given illustration is supposed to illustrate.
