Aesop's Fables and Other Parables: Odo of Cheriton
53. DE TRAHA ET BUFONE.
Perry
Traha semel transiuit super Bufonem, et unus dens percussit eam in capite,
alius in corde, alius in renibus. Et ait Bufo: Deus confundat tot dominos!
Ita potest dicere Capellanus. Archidiaconus petit procurationem, Officialis,
fauellos, Scutarii, sotulares, Trotarii, camisiam uel pecuniam. Similiter
balliui, subballiui, seruientes, portarii regis uel uice-comitis petunt
a paupere, et tunc potest dicere: Deus confundat tot dominos!
The
Latin text of Odo shown here is taken from Léopold Hervieux, Les fabulistes
latins depuis le siècle d'Auguste jusqu'à la. fin du Moyen-Age (1893-1899).
There is a delightful English translation of Odo by John Jacobs, which is still
in print. It's a lovely book!
