Phryx Aesopus (Osius, 1574)

163. MUS ET MILUIUS (Perry 0)

LIberet haerentem laqueo se Miluius [(perhaps: Miluus)] orat
Murem, nec misero ferre gravetur opem.
Efficit hic nullo quod pene labore roganti,
Ista tamen cui res exitiosa fuit.
Miluius exitii quo presserat auspice causam,
Arripiens praedam perfida fecit avis.
Reddere pro meritis haec pravi praemia gaudent,
Ut, cum profueris ipse, nocere velint.
Ut, servata tuo cum munere vita sit illis,
Interitus hi sint causa dolenda tui.

*** The drawing does not fit the fable. ***
This image also appears with Fable 3, where it fits.

Phryx Aesopus Habitu Poetico, by Hieronymus Osius, 1574 (artist not identified). Available online at the University of Mannheim. This book clearly recycles a set of images from another book of Aesop's fables. In some cases, the illustration does not match the fable shown, and in some cases I have not been able to identify what fable a given illustration is supposed to illustrate.
