Ut properans alii nuberet illa viro.
Esset adhuc formae dum dos, et iunior aetas,
Dumque placere novo posset amata proco.
Quam dixisse ferunt, huic ut parere recusem
Consilio, vulgi verba timenda movent.
Qui fuit huic, ergo pingi tum curat Asellum
Femina puniceo vafra colore parens.
Posset ut haec oculis spectantum [(perhaps: spectandum?)] mira videri,
Prodigii species quae vice pene fuit.
Spectandi studio mox confluit agmine vulgus,
Ostenti novitas scilicet instar erat.
Postera iam radiis sed lux ubi sparserat orbem,
Qui spectare parent, rarius agmen erant.
Tertia deinde dies, postque hanc ubi quarta rediret,

Deserit extremo visentum [(perhaps: visendum?)] totus Asellum
Coetus, et hunc non iam pergit ut ante sequi.
Hoc probat exemplo sermones provida vulgi
Non durare diu saepe solere parens.
Iamque secunda monens ut lecti foedera fiant,
Ocius hac de re fama silebit, ait.
Primum insueta movent humanas omnia mentes,
Tempus ut adficiant te minus illa facit.
