Phryx Aesopus (Osius, 1574)

208. VOTUM, QUOD SOLVI non poterat. (Perry 28)

VExarent quendam cum magna pericula morbo,
Desperasse ferunt paene medentis opem:
Confugit ipse preces fundens ad fida Deorum
Auxilia, illa tamen conditione petit:
Centum velle boves sese ille receperat aris
Tunc, an velle putas quemquam descendere caelo,
Haec sibi qui solvi vota requirat, ait?
Qui, cum desierint cessante pericula morbo,
Reddere promissas me sibi cogat opes?
Sunt ea qui faciles promittant, quae neque possint,
Nec dare polliciti debita iure velint.

*** The drawing does not fit the fable. ***
It also appears with Fable 220, where it does fit.

Phryx Aesopus Habitu Poetico, by Hieronymus Osius, 1574 (artist not identified). Available online at the University of Mannheim. This book clearly recycles a set of images from another book of Aesop's fables. In some cases, the illustration does not match the fable shown, and in some cases I have not been able to identify what fable a given illustration is supposed to illustrate.
